Ensuring we have a stable blood supply is essential to care for our patients and community. Thank you to all the blood donors who continue to answer the call to give. 

Did you know one pint of whole blood can be separated into several components (red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets and cryoprecipitate), and a single, whole blood donation can save the lives of three people.

We rely on volunteer donors for our blood supply. These donors do more than give blood — they play a key role in the healthcare process, giving the doctors and nurses in our area a tool that helps save lives.

What to Expect When You Donate Blood

When you arrive at Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Donor Center our staff will make every effort to accommodate you as soon as possible. First, you will be asked to complete the donor registration/medical history form.

The blood donation process takes about 30 minutes from the time you check in to the time you leave. The actual blood collection takes only about 10 minutes. For other donation types, the process (from arrival to departure) takes approximately:

  • 45 minutes to collect two units of red blood cells
  • 90 minutes to collect apheresis platelets

After you donate, you'll be given a light refreshment.

You may donate whole blood every eight weeks (up to six times per year) and platelets every week (up to 24 times per year). Appointments are available; walk-ins are welcome.

Where can I donate?

Hosting a Blood Drive

Thank you for your interest in hosting or supporting a blood drive for our center. This act of service is a great way to give, unselfishly, of yourself and benefit your community. We are flexible with dates, times, and locations for your convenience.

Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Center has three mobile units fully equipped for blood collection ready to travel as needed. If you or your business, civic/social organization(s), school, neighborhood, or church group would like to discuss hosting an event, be sure to contact us at (337) 470-GIVE(4483) for promotional materials.

Without the generosity and dedication from donors like you, there would not be enough blood on the hospital shelves for patients who desperately need it. Our Lady of Lourdes Blood Center is grateful, and in turn, we have made a commitment to provide respect, safety, convenience, and confidentiality for donors.

Although you may never need blood, immediate access to safe blood must be available for those in need. This can only happen if healthy people continue to donate. We encourage all who are eligible to give the gift of life to help maintain an adequate supply.

Lourdes Replacement Program is a way you and others interested in helping can reduce an Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital bill or other medical facilities. For every unit of blood donated as a replacement for someone (whether they receive blood or not), a credit will be applied to their bill.
